Man arrested for gun in NY casino hotel room

ISLANDIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a guest at a Long Island casino hotel left a semi-automatic rifle in a room, and they want to know why.

Raymond Hansen was released on $250,000 bond Friday after his arraignment on weapons possession and marijuana possession charges.

His lawyer, Bob Del Col, said Hansen apparently bought the weapon legally in Pennsylvania and had no bad intent.

Suffolk County police said a preliminary investigation indicated the 25-year-old didn't intend to cause harm.

But Newsday says District Attorney Timothy Sini calls the episode "concerning" and says authorities will "dig" to get "the full picture."

Police say a manager at Jake's 58 Casino and Hotel saw the gun on the floor Thursday while checking out a report of a barking dog.

The Islandia hotel referred questions to police.
