Girl who lost family in arson gets special gift

A 5-year-old from New York who lost her family in a fire that was intentionally was surprised today with a trip to Disney World.

Safyre Terry’s father and three younger siblings died in a fire caused by arson.

The young girl was found in the debris next to her father. He used his body to shield her from the flames.

However, Safyre suffered severe burns, and in the months following the fire she lost her right and hand and left foot.

Safyre lives with her aunt and uncle.

On Monday Baking Memories 4 Kids along with law enforcement groups went to her house with the surprise annoucement.

The non-profit foundation funds week-long all expense paid trips to children with life threatening and terminal illness along with their families to Florida theme parks. It was established in 2012 by cancer survivor Frank Squeo.

Safyre became an internet sensation after she asked for one wish this year, Christmas cards from around the world.

According to KOCO 5, Safyre Terry’s father and three younger siblings died in a fire caused by arson.

Her aunt posted a photo of Safyre standing next to a Christmas tree on Facebook in hopes of getting people to send cards.
