9-year-old girl honored for saving choking classmate

Kori Scott is a real-life hero. Earlier this month during lunchtime at Bowser Elementary School in East Orange, Kori's best friend started choking on a burrito. Kori, 9, jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

Kori said she knew exactly what to do because she remembered what happened when she was 3 and nearly choked herself. She said her father did the Heimlich maneuver and her, so she learned.

Her parents, of course, are proud of their special little girl.

East Orange Mayor Ted Green presented Kori with a proclamation at City Hall on Thursday afternoon. She will return to City Hall on Friday to be honorary mayor for the day.
