Gerber recalls pouches due to potential for spoilage

Popular baby food company, Gerber, announced a voluntary recall of some food pouches designed for toddlers because a container defect could cause the food to spoil.

Gerber Products Company said the recall impacts two flavors of its GERBER® Organic 2ND FOODS® Pouches: Pears, Carrots & Peas, 3.5 ounce pouches, and Carrots, Apples and Mangoes, 3.5 ounce pouches.

The company said it discovered a packaging defect that could cause the product to spoil. The company said it will offer replacement coupons for anyone who bought the recalled pouches.

Gerber said, if a pouch is spoiled, it may appear bloated and the product inside may have an off taste or smell. The company said it received three reports from consumer of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms, but a link between those cases and the product have not been confirmed.
