Comedian Gary Shandling dies of massive heart attack

Comedian Garry Shandling has died of an apparent heart attack, according to the LAPD. He was 66.

Medics were called to his Brentwood home Thursday morning and rushed him to a hospital where he died. An official with the coroner's office said that Shandling appears to have died of natural causes.

Shandling was known for his neurotic humor and his inventive TV shows. He is best known for his role on "The Larry Sanders Show," a satirical take on a late night talk show. It aired on HBO from 1992 to 1998.

Earlier he created "It's Garry Shandling's Show" for Showtime in 1986. It ran for four years. He also guest hosted the Tonight Show and hosted the Emmys twice.

Just a few days ago he retweeted Kathy Griffin's photo of himself, her and Bob Odenkirk.
