Fozzie, Scottsdale police dog, has passed away

Officials with Scottsdale Police said Fozzie, one of their police dogs, has passed away.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Scottsdale Police officials said Fozzie served for nearly 10 years, and was a police crisis response canine.

Fozzie, according to police, was the country's first full-time police crisis response canine.

Officials said Fozzie was initially studying to be a service dog, and was donated to Scottsdale Police by Michigan-based Paws With A Cause, after they determined Fozzie would make a better police crisis canine.

Besides his function in crisis response, Scottsdale Police said Fozzie served as a goodwill ambassador, and said Fozzie has made countless community presentations, school visits, and community special events.
