Flags to fly at half-staff in honor of truck attack victims

- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered flags on state government buildings to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, November 2, to honor the eight people who died in a truck attack in Manhattan this week.

"Today, tomorrow and forever, we will remember the lives of those taken from us too soon, and we keep in our thoughts their loved ones who are feeling unimaginable pain," Cuomo said in a statement. "We know that our freedom and our democracy are targets of this hate and it is critical that we work as one in the face of this attack."

Tuesday night, Cuomo directed the spire of One World Trade Center to be illuminated red, white, and blue "in honor of freedom and democracy."

The governor also ordered the State Police, National Guard, Port Authority, MTA, and Homeland Security and Emergency Services to step up security at potential terror targets, including airports, bridges, tunnels, and mass transit.
