First NYC baby of 2016 born in Brooklyn

The first baby born in New York City in 2016 was Zayden Noel.

The baby boy was welcomed into the world at exactly midnight at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island in Brooklyn.

Zayden weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz.

Baby and mother, Stephanie Diaz, were doing well, according to hospital officials.

"Coney Island Hospital is thrilled to have the first NYC Health + Hospitals baby born in 2016," said NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island Hospital Executive Director Robert Hughes. "We are elated to be part of such a special moment for this family."

Coney Island Hospital had the first baby in the public health system in New York City in 2015.

Shortly after Zayden made his arrival in Brooklyn, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx welcomed a new baby girl. 

Mother Rosana Alvarez gave birth to the child at 12:22 AM.

The 6 lb, 4.9 oz. baby and her mother were both said to be doing well.
