Fight sparks stampede at NYC subway station

A brawl between two men at the Herald Square/34th St. subway station caused a stampede as panicked riders ran in fear Wednesday morning.

It happened around 7 a.m at the height of the morning rush.  One witness says people were dropping backpacks and other items while sprinting away from the scene.

Another rider says people were screaming in the panic.

NYPD Transit officers arrived at the scene quickly and were investigating.  One D train was evacuated in the aftermath.

B,D, F and M Trains were bypassing the station for a period of time but and now operating normally.

No word on arrests was immediately available and it was not clear if anyone was seriously hurt.
