Two injured in Harlem manhole explosion

A manhole explosion in East Harlem has injured two people, according to the FDNY.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. at 2nd Avenue and East 110th Street.  Two Con Edison contractors were making repairs inside the manhole when the explosion occurred.

They were taken to Harlem Hospital where they are being treated for flash burns to their faces, said Con Ed.

The Fire Marshall is investigating the exact cause of the blast. Officials believe has may have sparked the powerful blast.
