No Bond for Woman Accused in Jewelry Store Robberies

ATLANTA - A federal judge has denied bond for a woman accused in a multi-state string of jewelry store robberies. 

Suspect Abigail Kemp, 24, of Smyrna, appeared in court Thursday morning where she was denied bond and called a "danger to society." 

According to the FBI, Kemp and 35-year-old Lewis Jones II, of Atlanta, worked together in six jewelry store robberies that span across five states. The two were arrested together at an undisclosed location in Smyrna.

The criminal complaint against Kemp and Jones alleges that in all six robberies, the robber displayed a handgun, ordered the employees to lie down on the floor, before binding their hands behind their backs. Then the robbers remove hundreds of thousands of dollars from the display case.

The robberies happened in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.The punishment for the charge, interference with commerce by threats or violence, is a maximum of 20 years.

Kemp, who sobbed openly in court on Monday, is from Cobb County and attended Hillgrove High School. 

"She was a good person, her personality was great. She was sarcastic and witty," said classmate Stephanie Godfrey. "She was always like the life of the party." 

Jones is being held in the DeKalb County Jail.
