Death of 82-year-old pedestrian under investigation

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) - An investigation has been launched into the death of an 82-year-old woman who was struck by a charter bus in West Orange, New Jersey.

Essex County prosecutors and township police officials say Dilma Khan had been crossing a street Thursday morning when she was hit by a DeCamp commuter bus.

Police rushed to help the West Orange woman, but officials say she died at the scene about a half-hour later.

Investigators say the driver called police and tried to help.

The bus is owned by New Jersey Transit, but operated by DeCamp. The company says it is looking into the incident but declined to comment further.

No charges have been filed.
