Two dead in Bronx fire

-  A fire that raged through a Bronx apartment building has claimed two lives and critically injured two other people.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Monday on Hoffman St. in the Belmont neighborhood.

Firefighters had to battle flames at the front door so they could get inside.  Eleven people were rescued from the five-story building.

Three of the victims were taken to St. Barnabus Hospital.  Two males died.  A female was listed in critical condition.  Their names and ages were not available.

EMS transported another eight people to Jacobi Hospital.  One female out of that group was listed in critical condition.  The other seven, including some FDNY personnel were listed in stable condition.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
