Dallas gunman 'wanted to kill white officers'

Micah X. Johnson, 25, of Dallas, Texas was identified Friday as the gunman who was killed by a police bomb during an ambush on officers.

Speaking at a news conference, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the gunman told responding officers that he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers."

“We cornered one suspect and we tried to negotiate for several hours,” said Brown.

He added that “negotiations broke down” and turned into “an exchange of gunfire with the suspect."

Johnson was reportedly an Army veteran.

A police robot was used to detonate the bomb that killed Johnson.

Five police officers were killed in the ambush and seven were injured when an anti-violence rally turned violent Thursday just before 9 p.m.
