Con Edison's NYC steam system

- It's loud in here but that's the way it is for us to get a once in a lifetime look at a fascinating part of the city's infrastructure. We begin with this, everyone knows what a pilot light looks like for their boiler. This is what it looks like when you power a good part of the city. At 2,000 degrees, this is as close as we can get. 2,000 degrees is what it takes to initiate the steam pipe system from 96th street on down to the battery.
