Coast Guard medevacs 2 passengers from Norwegian Gem

An 83-year-old woman and a 45-year-old woman were evacuated from a cruise ship near the Verrazano Bridge, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The crew of the Norwegian Gem contacted the Coast Guard Tuesday evening after an elderly passenger had fractured her femur.

Two hours later at about 9:40 p.m., the crew called the Coast Guard, again, to report that a 45-year-old passenger was experiencing severe abdominal pain.

Coast Guard members arrived at 10 p.m. and transferred both passengers and two other people from the cruise ship to Coast Guard Station New York.

The women were then transferred to EMS crews who were on standby.

FOX5NY.com has reached out to the Coast Guard for an update on the women and is awaiting a response.
