'Buddy benches' are a hit at schools in New Jersey

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Even on dreary days, a bright spot is always here at HM Milnes Elementary school in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. They're called buddy benches. The school has four. The benches are not only pretty they serve an important purpose during recess. If a child sits down, it is a signal for someone to join them.

The benches were installed in October, thanks to the PTA, and since then they've been a huge hit with kids here at the school. The PTA was aiming for kids making new friends.

Buddy benches can be found in the U.S. and throughout the North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Since being installed the benches have been busy with buddies. The benches clearly teach lessons that could potentially last a lifetime.
