A solemn ceremony was held Thursday. Dozens of airmen stood formation as the body of Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa returned to Long Island's Gabreski Air National Guard Base. Family, friends and servicemen describe Bonacasa as an undeniable hero who made the ultimate sacrifice

The Coram father joined the military in 2002. He was serving his fourth and final military tour. Bonacasa was one of six American airmen killed last week during a suicide bombing in Afghanistan, including NYPD Detective Joseph Lemm, who was buried Wednesday.

Bonacasa lived a life of bravery and service to country. He leaves behind his wife and 5-year-old beloved daughter Lily. Through his poetry, he vowed to give his life to protect her.

Visitation for Bonacasa will be at the Branch Funeral Home in Miller Place. His funeral will be held Saturday morning at New Beginnings Christian Center in his hometown of Coram followed by a burial at Calverton National Cemetery.
