Surveillance video shows former MLB prospect Vasquez attack fiancee

- A Pennsylvania minor league baseball team has cut ties with an outfielder after the Corpus Christi Police Department released a video of a domestic violence incident for which the player completed a probationary sentence.

The Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League announced on the team's Facebook page on Tuesday that the team had released 24-year-old Danry Vasquez.

KRIS-TV first obtained the video from Aug. 2, 2016 that shows an apparent violent incident that involved a man attacking his fiancee in a stairwell at Whataburger Field, the stadium home of the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. Vasquez is a former prospect for the Houston Astros system.

Major League Baseball suspended Vasquez indefinitely following the 2016 incident, but independent leagues are not subject to the authority of the MLB.

FOX News and FOX 26 News have since obtained the apparent domestic violence incident video through an open records request.

The Corpus Christi Police Department released the following statement to FOX 26:

On August 03, 2016 Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by the reporting party that surveillance video captured a family violence incident that occurred on August 02, 2016 involving Danry Vasquez (01/08/1994) and a 19-year-old female.  The video shows a couple enter the stairwell and as soon as the door to the concourse shuts, Danry Vasquez, strikes the victim several times on her head and facial area.  The video then shows the pair walking down another flight of stairs at which point Vasquez strikes the victim again.

Contact was made with the victim of the assault on August 4, 2018.  On the same day a warrant was requested and was issued for the arrest of Danry Vasquez.

On August 4, 2018 Danry Vasquez was arrested based on the warrant for Assault Family Violence (Class A Misdemeanor - $10,000 Bond).

The case was filed with the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office.

Vasquez, a Venezuelan national, had signed a contract with a $1.2 million signing bonus with the Detroit Tigers when he was 16 years old before he was traded to the Astros.
