NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Brace yourself. Record-breaking low temperatures are forecast for the weekend. The team of meteorologists at FOX5NY is calling for the coldest weather of the season.
Temperatures started to dip Thursday and will continue until Sunday. A Wind Chill Watch is in effect for Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. The extreme temperatures caused the cancelation of an ice festival in Central Park on Saturday.
Valentine's Day looks like it will be the coldest day with morning wind chills dropping -20 to -25 degrees.
Health experts warn you should stay indoors in a heated environment until the cold snap breaks.
Check on elderly neighbors and people with disabilities.
If you must be outdoors, make sure to dress for the weather and do not leave any portion of your skin exposed to the elements. Wear multiple layers. Frostbite can quickly set in during a significant drop in the mercury.
