Anti-gay slurs spray-painted on candidate's home

The home of Chris Schwartz, the Democratic candidate for supervisor of Black Hawk County in Iowa, and his partner, was vandalized last week with anti-gay slurs.

"Leviticus 20:13," a Biblical passage that calls for the killing of gay men, was spray-painted on the house's entry door.

Several signs on the property were also defaced including one with the word "fag" written on it.  Others had black lines spray-painted across the middle.

Schwartz shared photos of the vandalism on Oct. 27. He captioned them with a plea to his followers to be kind to others, even if you disagree with them.

"Words really can't express my anger, my frustration, and the hurt that I feel as a result of the act of hatred... If you are as upset as we are, please remember to be kind to those who have different views and opinions. Instead of writing a nasty comment, sign up to volunteer."

On Oct. 31, the Schwartz campaign shared photos of his home with new signs and the biblical verse painted over, just in time for Halloween trick-or-treaters.
