NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Alexa might be staying with you during your next visit to a Marriott hotel. Guests will be able to ask an Amazon Echo to reach housekeeping, booking a massage, and ordering room service. Marriott International is going to introduce Alexa for Hospitality in 10 hotels, including Westin, St. Regis, Aloft, and Autograph properties.
When guests enter their room, Alexa will be on mute. They'll have to opt-in to activate the device but won't have to give their name or personal information to use it. A Marriott official said this will be an option for guests if they want it.
Jennifer Hsieh of Marriott International said the company will only get anonymous aggregated reports of the data to help refine and improve the guest experience.
But Sam Kassoumeh, the co-founder SecurityScorecard, said that hackers could still gain access and that he worries about the security risks.
If you want to stay in a hotel room with an Echo, you'll have to wait. This rollout won't take place in any New York City hotels this summer. The closest hotel with it will be in Buffalo.
