Cardinal Dolan backs pope on immigrants

- Cardinal Timothy Dolan sides with Pope Francis when it comes to immigrants. Dolan celebrated mass in the Bronx at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church and met with Catholic school children after he explained the pontiff's point of view.

Dolan said that the pope was speaking about hospitality and justice for immigrants whether they have a document or not. Dolan said that the pope was trying to say that immigrants are "children of god deserving dignity and respect."

Dolan's comments come a week after Pope Francis inserted himself into the 2016 presidential race by appearing to take on Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. While returning from a visit to Mexico and ceremony at the U.S.-Mexican border, Pope Francis responded to reporters' questions about Trump. He said that a person who thinks only about building walls instead of bridges is "not Christian."

One of the tenets of Trump's campaign has been that he wants to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border paid for by Mexico to keep out illegal immigrants.

Both sides have since softened their tone toward one another.
