Newark mayor calls for raise for airport workers

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The mayor of New Jersey's largest city is calling on the agency that operates Newark Liberty International Airport to raise the minimum wage for workers there to $15 an hour.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka will hold a news conference Wednesday to announce the creation of an office to oversee the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

He wants the minimum wage increase plus benefits for workers at the airport and other jobs controlled by the Port Authority.

Baraka has promised since he took office in 2014 to hire an administrator to act as liaison to the bistate agency.
