NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - It was a canine carnival in midtown where the American Kennel Club released the list of the most popular dog breeds in the United States for 2015. They were presented by the club's vice president Gina Dinardo.
Taking the number five spot is the beagle. This adorable and independent dog is a true scent hound, which makes its nose a very desirable feature, according to Diana Lipari from Boxborough, Massachusetts.
Quickly rising up the popularity chart is the fourth placed bulldog which has risen 32 spots in the last decade.
In third place is the active and athletic golden retriever. This breed is very trainable which makes it a popular choice for families and for service with the blind.
The second place spot goes to the intelligent German shepherd. This protective dog breed is frequently chosen to serve in our government and armed forces.
And coming in at number one is the versatile Labrador retriever. This breed has held the top spot for the last 25 years. Its biggest appeal is its easy going temperament, which makes it an ideal sport and family dog.
The top five breeds for New York City were also announced. The bulldog, like Dailey here, as well as the French bulldog are the top 2 breeds right here in New York City. Reason being is that they make great apartment dwellers as they like to hang out. And they are friendly with other breeds that they encounter in elevators.
