Driver sentenced in death of 4-year-old girl

- All that Ariel Russo's family has left of her are memories, pictures and artwork from the 4-year-old little girl.

On Friday, Franklin Reyes, who ran over Ariel while she was walking to school, was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison. Reyes was 17 at the time, driving without a license, and took police on a high-speed chase before jumping a curb and killing Ariel.

In court, Ariel's mom said Reyes will have plenty of time to think about the lives he destroyed and how he is going to hopefully change.

Reyes kept his head down during his sentencing and read a short statement apologizing to the Russo family.

Reyes has been blasted in and out of court for failing to show remorse since the tragedy two and a half years ago. A year after killing Ariel, while out on bail, Reyes was arrested again for driving illegally and dragging a police officer after speeding away from him.

Although Reyes was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison, he has already served a year and a half, which means in another year and half he will be up for parole. The Russo family says it will fight that every step of the way.
