93-year-old given 'memory cushion' made out of late husband's shirt

An elderly woman from England received a touching gift from an employee at her retirement facility last week.

The Richmond Village Northampton Facebook page shared two photos on March 10 with the following caption:

"Mr John Beckett recently passed away and Chris Rayatt (Head of activities) got an idea from the Internet about memory cushions. He thought it would be a nice idea to make one out of John's shirts. See the moment Chris gave Joyce the cushion."

The shirt that Joyce was given has a patch on it that says "This is a shirt I used to wear, whenever you hold it know that I am there."

According to a local newspaper, Northampton Herald & Post, the 93-year-old woman had been getting distressed following the passing of her husband. The two had moved to Richmond Villages together and were married for 70 years.

The Northampton Herald & Post said the staff at the retirement village asked Joyce's son for a shirt.
