NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Nassau County Police say they arrested a man Tuesday on child endangerment and other charges after he tried to kidnap a baby in a stroller in Woodmere, Long Island.
Police say that Craig Myczkowski, 44, tried to take the baby from a nanny, followed her back to a house, and left with an empty stroller.
The 65-year-old nanny was walking a 20-month-old baby in a stroller Monday when the man told her she was "pushing a dead baby." He then insisted he needed to take the baby.
The woman tried to get away but police say Myczkowski followed her and entered a house home through an unlocked mudroom. The nanny then locked the kitchen door.
Police say he left with the empty stroller, which was later found at a pizza shop in Hewlett.
The nanny and the child were not injured.
Myczkowski is charge with attempted unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child, burglary, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and was expected to be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
