6 hurt in Manhattan elevator plunge

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Six people were taken to hospitals in serious conditions after the elevator they were in plunged down at least two floors in a Manhattan building.

The incident took place at 238 E. 49th St. in Midtown.

It happened a few hours after the ball dropped in Times Square to ring in the new year.

It was unclear what caused the elevator to drop.  No other information was immediately available.
