Hot toys make coding cool

Some of the hottest toys help kids learn simple coding.

Charlie Brown is in the Macy's window display on 34th Street, and that means the holidays are near. Ask about any group of kids and they'll tell you those tech toys are high the wish list.

Rafa Jop, 12, is interested in learning how to program that computer. Computer coding is becoming a hot market for kids' toys. Devices like the Dash and DotRobot from a company called Wonder Workshop or the Hackaball, basically a computer inside a ball kids can program with an iPad, are sold as toys that can help kids learn to program.

Scott Heifetz is director of Launch, a math and science center on the Upper West Side. He thinks the coding toys have clear benefits.
