Donating food to those in need

Food banks and pantries, including St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters, are counting on you to donate. Father Francis Gasparik says donating turkeys, stuffing and cranberry sauces is great but people have to think past the holidays. The pantry needs cereal, mac and cheese; tuna fish, protein items, children diapers, and much more. Many households are without eggs, milk, or butter so items that only require water are perfect, like oatmeal, can soups, vegetables, rice, and beans.

Many of you watching will want to reach into your cabinets and grab some cans and drive them down to your local food pantry which is totally fine but you have to check the expiration date. Last year St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters had a huge drive but had to throw out 50 percent of the cans because they were either expired or dented.

Alton McLean has been coming to St. John 's Bread of Life Food Pantry for the past two years. He comes ever week to pick up bag full of goods.

St. Francis is a network with more than 40 locations in New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey. To help, click here.
