Newark, JFK, LaGuardia airports may impose access fees

- If you use a car service or a ride-sharing app such as Uber or Lyft to get to the airport, you might have to start paying more. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is looking into charging driver-for-hire services extra to drop people off at Newark, Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.

In a statement, the Port Authority says its airports are among the few in the nation that do not charge an access fee and that it reviews the issue periodically as another potential way to help fund aviation improvements.

On Sunday, Dulles and Reagan National airports outside of D.C. begin imposing $4 access fees for drivers. That cost trickles down to passengers, of course. The Port Authority says it is considering the access fees to help deal with overcrowding of for-hire vehicles at the drop-off terminals.
