NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Authorities say five people died in New York on Saturday while trying to shovel the snow that was falling all day. All of the victims apparently suffered heart attacks.
Gov. Cuomo made the announcement on Sunday during a storm recovery update. Three snow shoveling deaths were have reported to have taken place in New York City on Saturday.
One of the deaths took place on Staten Island. The other two happened in Queens. The names of the victims were not released. It was unclear where the other two death took place.
A police spokesman said the medical examiner's office will determine the exact causes of the deaths.
More than 26" of snow fell in parts of New York City in one of the all-time largest snowstorms for the city.
At least 20 deaths nationally were blamed on the storm.
