NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - President Donald Trump remains on what he calls a "working vacation" at his home on his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The president on Monday lashed out on Twitter at Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, calling him a "phony Vietnam con artist." He tweeted "never in the U.S. has anyone lied or defrauded voters" like Blumenthal.
Trump was referring to the 2010 controversy surrounding Blumenthal when he referred to himself having served in Vietnam. He served in the Marine Corps for six years in the U.S. but received five deferments keeping him from being sent over to Vietnam.
"They are slurs and I am not going to be distracted or bullied by them," Blumenthal said. He announced he will introduce a bill to prevent President Trump from firing Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading up the Russia probe and its possible links to the Trump administration.
"This investigation is not going away," Blumenthal said. "The president cannot stop it by firing the special counsel."
The president again tweeted about Blumenthal Monday evening. The president said he thinks Blumenthal should take a nice long vacation in Vietnam so he can at least say he was there.
