Tech job openings up in NYC

- Tech hiring is on the rise in New York, in the second half of 2017.

Ryan Sutton, District President of staffing firm Robert Half Technology says there are certain technology skill sets that arguably have a negative unemployment rate.

Simply said: there are more jobs than people.

That’s a major reason why you’ll see more technology job listings through the end of the year.

NYC- based companies are hiring and there aren’t enough skilled people out there.

Ryan says it’s always amazing and interesting how tech is so hot and so in demand, yet they still can’t get enough candidates into the field.

Another reason why there’s more tech hiring these days?

More tech companies are moving to New York.

Ryan says the industry is growing overall and it’s fueling some excellent hiring.

Certain tech skill sets are particularly in demand.

Ryan says the big trend is still in software engineering, database management, and anything involved with transitioning to the cloud.

Thinking of making the transition into tech, but not sure if it’s right for you?

Ryan suggests talking to somebody in the industry.

For example, if you want to become a java developer, find somebody who already is.

Ask how they got into it, what’s changed over the last 3-5 years, and what do they see changing in their career for the next 3-5 years.

Above all, you need to be a bit of a tech geek.

If you want to get into technology, Ryan says, you need to be a hobbyist and truly enjoy the field.

It’s constantly evolving, and you’ll have to keep learning and stay on top of your skills.

Robert Half Technology’s website (www.roberhalf.com/technology) has hundreds of current tech openings, from full-time jobs to contract work.

The listings include required skills and salary information.
