New York Fashion Week for menswear

The first New York Men's Fashion Week comes to a close Thursday night. It's refreshing to see menswear having its day. Crowds still gathered, the photographers were all there, but this time it was all about the guys.

The first New York Fashion Week: Men's comes to a close Thursday night. It's refreshing to see menswear having its day. Crowds still gathered, the photographers were all there, but this time it was all about the guys.

One big trend seen on a lot of runways: sneakers. The brand Public School showed bad boy styles. There was a noticeable absence of color. Everything was all black or all white and on the feet, sneakers. Baller Dwayne Wade and his wife actress Gabrielle Union showed up at the Engineered for Motion presentation where the models sported streamlined basics with sneakers.

At Todd Snyder, solid neutral tones ruled the runway.  There was lots of chocolate brown, khaki, almost 50 shades of gray and black. Classic American sportswear at its best.

If slim fitting clothes aren't your thing, one big trend saw the return of volume. Almost everything on the runway at Duckie Brown was oversize and baggy. Duckie Brown designers Daniel Silver and Steven Cox call their new collection "Funny Duckie." And as unique as it looks they insist the collection is based on classic menswear pieces energized by unexpected fabrics and unexpected proportions. Their designs are heavily influenced by women's fashion. I'm not so sure you've seen anything like this at your neighborhood backyard barbeque.

Volume was also the name of the game at Rochambeau. Loose-fitting outfits were the label's trademark in neutral colors similar to the ones at Todd Snyder.

It was baggy with a beachy vibe at Teemo Wyland. The young designer accessorized his looks with floppy hats and Hawaiian lays. But the overall look was super relaxed.

Even if you haven't heard the term "athleisure," I bet you've seen it. At Anzevino & Getty, athletic wear and sportswear made perfect bedfellows. Now here's a trend almost any man can easily pull off.
