NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie worked the boardwalk in Seaside Heights Friday to kick off the summer season. We had the chance to sit down with him one-on-one to talk about President Trump.
Christie still advises the president. They speak about once a week or every 10 days or so. The governor said the best thing Trump has done so far is appointing Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.
What has he been worst at? Tweeting, Christie said. He told Trump to stop tweeting, but the president won't because he likes to tweet.
The governor also said he believes Trump's first trip overseas as president has been successful. Responding to critics who say that Trump is cozying up too much to Saudis and is too critical of NATO allies, Christie said he'd rather be with the Saudis than the Iranians. "Life is about choices," he said.
What about the FBI looking into Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner as part of the Russia investigation? Christie said the term "person of interest" does not exist in federal probes. He said federal law has three classifications: witness, subject, and target. "You're one of those three," Christie said. "They said he's not a subject or target, so he's a witness."
And finally, Christie said he intends to finish his term as governor in January. He said he doesn't know that he will ever join Trump's administration because it "might be nice to go out and make some money" for his family after 16 years in public service.
