Protesters boo Speaker Paul Ryan in Harlem

- Speaker of the House Paul Ryan didn't exactly get a warm welcome in Harlem Tuesday. He visited a public school classroom before continuing to tour the Success Academy charter school. Outside, protesters booed the speaker.

In a statement about his visit the speaker said: "They have a lot to be proud of, and these remarkable kids are getting a great education. That's what matters -- giving every kid a fair shot at the American Dream."

The visit was unusually less publicized than expected for the leader of the House of Representatives. Neither a press release nor an official schedule was released. Calls and emails to Success Academy were initially unanswered.

Protestors were on hand since 11 a.m. and waited several hours. They were fired up over education and healthcare.

New York Public Advocate Letitia James was also on hand for the protest. She said New Yorkers are sending a message to Ryan.

Eva Moskowitz, the head of Success Academy and once a potential contender to be President Trump's secretary of education, invited Ryan to visit the school. She said in a statement that the speaker took the opportunity to see first-hand what was working.

First daughter Ivanka Trump visited the school earlier this year.
