Rebuilt classic Porsche 911 cars on cross-country trip

- A certain purr exists with an air-cooled Porsche engine. The music of the engine is hitting all the right notes for David Jacobson, owner of Collector Car Showcase in Oyster Bay, Long Island.

David and his gProgramm team have rebuilt three air-cooled Porsche 911s: a 1974 911S narrow-body, a 1978 SC Coupe, and a 1979 Targa. David's team believes the authentic soul of the car speaks to you. David says that these cars were built for a certain kind of person. You either get it or you don't.

Charlie Lamberta, the owner of the '74 desert beige classic, says he gets it. He says his Porsche is loud, noisy, and uncomfortable -- everything a Porsche is supposed to be.

At gProgramm, while keeping uniform and true, each hand-built high-performance Porsche sports its own unique and customized charm.

David says he can't pick a favorite. It is like choosing between your kids. But what he can do is take all of them on the road at the same time.

This week, the cars are being tested on a cross-country road trip to Los Angeles, where they will then be displayed at Luftgekunlt, a premier event for air-cooled Porsche lovers.

But this trip is not just about Porsches. David's team is also fundraising for the Hometown Foundation and its Dream Ride Experience, which benefits Special Olympics athletes. David says he wants charity and inclusion to be part of everything gProgramm does.

And David and the gang are inviting you along for this cross country journey. You can follow along on social media or go for the ride.
