NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The 'FyreFestival' in the Bahamas created by rapper JaRule, promoted by several super models and reportedly costing attendees thousands of dollars was abruptly canceled Friday stranding hundreds of people on the island.
The music festival organizers took to Twitter to announce the cancelation of all performances and several inbound flights carrying ticket holders.
By late Friday morning, people who had already traveled to the island and reportedly paid upwards of $12,000 for show tickets and airfare were stranded with no flights leaving the island.
Bahamas Tourism officials slammed festival organizers.
"Hundreds of visitors to Exuma were met with total disorganization and chaos," reads a statement on the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism website. " The event organizers assured us that all measures were taken to ensure a safe and successful event but clearly they did not have the capacity to execute an event of this scale."
According to Billboard, the festival "promised attendees three days on a Caribbean island paradise with luxury accommodations, gourmet food -- and, for those who paid six figures for the privilege to attend -- access to private beaches, luxury yachts and Fyre’s artist compound."
"At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get all travelers home safely" read the FryeFestival Twitter page.

Festival goer William N. Finley tweeted several photos of the mess.
"So Frye Fest is a complete disaster. Mass chaos. No organization. No one knows where to go. There are no villas, just a disaster tent city.

Another post to Twitter showed photos of food served in a styrofoam container.
The "catering" (which cost extra) was a slice of untoasted bread, two slices prepackaged cheese, and a side salad. pic.twitter.com/BoKxWAMI5i— Iron Spike (@Iron_Spike) April 28, 2017
