Owner of $24 million winning lottery ticket comes forward just in time

A person nearly lost out on millions of dollars because they had no checked their lottery numbers on a ticket that was about to expire.

A $24 million lottery ticket from May 25, 2016 remained unclaimed and would have become worthless today unless it was turned in.

The person with the winning ticket walked into the lottery's Beaver Street customer service center in Lower Manhattan with the ticket.  The person, who has not been identified yet, said that news coverage of the about-to-expire ticket prompted them to search for the ticket in their home.

The winning ticket was purchased at Renu Corp Grocery & Tobacco located at 158 Church Street in Tribeca.

Lottery officials recommend that the ticket holder sign the back of the ticket and contact them immediately. The winner may claim the ticket at any one of the Lottery’s Customer Service Centers across the state.

If the prize was not claimed it would have been returned to the prize pool for future winners.
