21st Century Fox employees give back during Impact Week

Some students in Brooklyn got a chance to get out of the classroom Wednesday morning and take some pictures in the park. I was with dozens of other volunteers as the children got a chance to see exactly what 21st Century Fox Impact Week is all about.

Not all learning takes place in the classroom. 3rd and 4th graders at P.S. 24 in Sunset Park got a rare opportunity to learn photography from the pros at National Geographic.

The event was one of the hundreds taking place globally as part of 21CF Impact Week. Now in its third year, Impact Week is an opportunity for employees at 21st Century Fox to volunteer in the communities they serve. The goal is to encourage people of all ages to take part in activities focused on creativity and the arts, knowledge and exploration, and sports and well-being.

All of the students we volunteered with were definitely up for the challenges on the list of photography tasks. That is a testament to the power of looking at things with fresh eyes.

Some of the kids told me that they enjoy being behind the camera, but some said they liked being in front of the lens more. As a news anchor, I'm obviously not going to shortchange those who gravitated to being in front of the lens.

Who knows? Some of the students could even be my future colleagues. But I've still got a few years at least before I'll be seeing them on the job. Although some already appear to be on the fast track.
