Strong geomagnetic storm hits Earth

- The Space Weather Prediction Center warns that a strong to extreme geomagnetic storm is expected to impact Earth on Tuesday.  The conditions for a G3(strong) geomagnetic storm were met just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

The warning says that it is bringing "magnetospheric disturbances caused by Earth's transition into increased solar wind speeds from a recurrent coronal hole" and the storm could bring power system voltage irregularities, Earth-orbit satellites could have orientation problems, and GPS navigation systems could experience problems, including loss-of-lock and increased range errors.

High frequency radios signals may also be impacted.

As part of the storm NOAA says that the Aurora may be seen as low as Pennsylvania to Iowa to Oregon on Tuesday night.

The prediction center had previously issed a moderate storm watch but the storm has become stronger than expected.  The storm watch was issued for October 24-26.
