NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - The blue line in Mahwah, New Jersey, is about the length of three football fields. The message is about respect and gratitude.
Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet decided to have a blue line painted in between the yellow lines on the street in front of the police department. He says after seeing the horror of five police officers killed in Dallas and the deaths of other police officers across the country in recent months, the blue line symbolizes how grateful this Bergen County community is for its officers. Laforet also used his own money to make signs thanking police officers that residents could display on their front lawns.
Dumont, also in Bergen County, has blue lines to thank the police department, red lines for firefighters, and green lines to show appreciation for EMS workers.
Keep your eyes open, because the colorful lines could be showing up in your town next.
