The drive-by shooter is still on the loose and so is the suspect who killed the young man for whom the vigil was for.

Gunfire erupts at a gathering for a murder victim as a vigil on Knodell on the city's east side was violently interrupted Monday night.  Loved ones were remembering 23-year-old Reuben Rambus, a father of two who was gunned down while sitting in his car outside his grandmother's home Sunday afternoon.

"He didn't have a problem with anybody out here - not a single soul," said the victim's relative.

A relative who asked not to be identified says he doesn't know why anyone would want Reuben dead.

"He just wanted to take care of his family, take care of his kids," said the relative. "And leave everybody else alone - but it seems it is hard to do that out here."

Then Monday night, an informal gathering with drinks and candles and tears for Reuben - when suddenly someone driving by opened fire and hit a 50-year-old man in his thigh and a 55-year-old woman in her elbow.

When the shooting started, everybody scattered leaving behind their candles, their keys, their phones, even their guns.

On Tuesday the trash can was piled high with some of what was left behind - people searching this lot for the items they lost. But one man says Monday night's shooting was not aimed at anyone.

"Nobody could tell what was going on," he said. "But when everything calmed down everybody realized it was nothing to do with that. It was just a misunderstanding - just a misunderstanding."

Detroit police are keeping a close watch as homicide detectives search for a killer and a family hopes for justice.
