Close to 70 million people in more than a dozen states, including the tristate area, can order from their smartphones. While it is one more way of Google chipping at Amazon Prime's dominance, there are some differences.

Online shopping expert Michelle Madhok says Google is going to be more curated. The service will offer things that you can get locally.

"Google Express is a number of items you can order via Google and Google Express and have it delivered in under an hour," Madhok says.

You pay either a per-order fee or an annual fee. Google Express charges subscribers $95 a year whereas Amazon Prime is $99.

"Depending on the item, some will take a little longer, but you can click 'get this today'," Madhok says.

She notes that Amazon has a much bigger selection of items so she says if you can wait two days to get it, that's probably the better option but if there is something you abolutely need right away, Google might be a better option, according to Madhok.
