Trump beating Clinton in latest national poll

The race for the White House has tightened. One new poll shows Trump leading Clinton.

- It's essentially a dead heat in the race for the White House between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, 62 days before the general election.

According to CNN/ORC, 45 percent of likely voters are backing the Republican nominee, and 43 percent say they will vote for the Democrat.

Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson was included in the survey and came in at 7 percent.

Clinton's 8-point bump after the Democratic convention has largely disappeared.

1,001 adult Americans were questioned by telephone by ORC International on September 1-4.

The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Four presidential/vice presidential debates are scheduled before the general election on Tues., Nov. 8:

Presidential Debate: Sept. 26 at Hofstra University on Long Island;

Vice Presidential Debate: Oct. 4 at Longwood University in Virginia;

Presidential Town Hall Debate: Oct. 9 in St. Louis;

Presidential Debate: Oct. 19 in Las Vegas.
