Paterson police say the shooting was reported around 4 a.m. Friday. Responding officers did not find any victims at the scene, but they soon learned that two men had gone to a hospital to seek treatment for wounds they suffered in the confrontation.

The 25- and 27-year-old men - identified only as Paterson residents - were listed in critical condition. But further details about the shooting and their injuries were not released.
