Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision early Tuesday morning on the eastbound Northern State Parkway on Long Island. During a police pursuit, one of the drivers drove on the wrong way of the parkway crashing into the other vehicle, according to Suffolk County Police.

Suffolk County police said a woman, who they haven't identified, was pulled over in Central Islip around 2:30 a.m. Police believe she may have been driving while intoxicated in a stolen SUV. Police said that the woman almost struck the police officer while trying to flee the scene.

The police officer then engaged in a police pursuit with that woman going westbound in the eastbound lanes on the parkway before the driver of the alleged stolen SUV slammed into a Honda Accord, killing the male driver, police said.

At this time it is unclear where the alleged suspect got on the Northern State Parkway and how fast she and the police officer were going. If you have any information, you can call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The parkway remained closed between exits 41 and 42 while police investigated. The westbound lanes were reopened several hours later. All eastbound lanes reopened at about 11 a.m.
