NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The upper balcony of a three-story apartment building on Long Beach, Long Island, collapsed Tuesday morning causing several balconies below to come crashing down.
A FOX 5 News crew working in the area came upon the scene as firefighters and police officers rushed to the building at 233 Shore Road at about 8 a.m.
A resident of the lower level apartment told FOX 5 she was fortunate to make it out alive.
Scaffolding can be seen erected on the side of the building.
A local resident said the building which is located a block from the beach had been undergoing brick repair work for several weeks.
It is not clear what caused the top level balcony to collapse, triggering the other five to come down as well.
There were no injuries reported, according to police.
Engineers will need to determine the structural integrity of the building.
